The jungle drums have been pounding around the U.K. with the news that a former factory Maico rider is about to ply his trade once again sat astride a rather familiar seat.

Going “Back to the Future” Keith Ree has joined the friendly U.K. Based set-up and will be doing some test and development riding as well as a few vets meetings around England this year. No stranger to the brand, Ree’s association with the prestigious German marque goes back to the late seventies and early eighties where prior to his Maico days he was under contract with another German manufacturer, Kramer.

Spending six years racing under the Maico banner Ree clocked up an impressive list of titles in the U.K. before he retired from full time racing in 1992 to concentrate on his business, building and designing luxury race transporters and motorhomes for the motorsports industry. In recent years he has been the driving force behind the high profile K.R.M. Race team being responsible for what is arguably one of the best organised and most image conscious teams in the paddock running the likes of Tommy Searle  for the K.T.M. factory in 2007 and the complete Honda youth squad in 2006.

Deciding to get back on the dirt this year Ree was offered the chance to race again on the brand on which he made his name back in the 80’s and felt it was an opportunity he simply could not let pass and is looking forward to taking delivery of a new 500 MX.

With several sponsorship deals already in place including the prestigious American brand “Maxima Oils”, Maico are also supported by ProClean, Falcon Shocks, West Country Windings, and are pleased to announce that their team will be supported by Dunlop tyres this year.

Maico’s press office told us:

“Dunlop is a well established brand, recognised around the world and we are very pleased to be representing their products this year”.
