Reader Rebuild – 2005 KTM 200 EXC

Here is the story of my rebuild of my 2005 KTM 200 EXC, twostrokemotocross.com inspired me to have a go and do it myself.

Since starting racing as a 10 year old in 1984, I have had two dirt bike ambitions I really wanted to fulfil, first to ride a 500, second to rebuild my own motor. Well the first was ticked off last year in the dunes at Lancelin, north of Perth, Australia, thanks to the kind Kiwi who said in response to my request for a photo of his gleaming 2001 model CR500, “Take it for a spin if you like.” Needless to say I took the offer up, let me tell you holding that baby wide open in 5th in a pair of shorts and sandals was quite a thrill. I have a neat little scar on my left calf to remind me of when the curve in the pipe branded me on that great day! Anyway, after 5 heavenly minutes I figured I would be wise to hand it back while I was still in 1 piece.

Lalo’s 2-Stroker Story

Howdy General!

This story is about my son “Lalo.”  Lalo got his first motorcycle when he was 12…a 1980 XR200.  He picked-up riding naturally, but complained that the XR was too slow.  For his 14th b-day we gave him my old 2000 YZ125.  After some “relearning” what a clutch was really for, he began to really rip on his 2-smoker.  He did so well, that last year we got him a 1995 CR250.  Here is where we begin……

Two Stroke Quote of the Day

“I was fortunate enough to be able to ride a full Mitch Payton Pro Circuit Kawasaki 125cc (two stroke) ”

“That was the bike the majority of us wanted to ride. I know I did when I was 10 years old sitting in the stands of the SX races or the uphill at Washougal .”

Successful silicone now standard

Working closely with the company producing the silicone hoses for the M.M.X. range Neil Berry has given the thumbs up to the product which will now be fitted as standard equipment to the 2011 bike and will be added to this year’s options list.

Talking to an overseas journalist earlier this week Berry commented, “The hoses have been on the bike for a month now in all conditions and we have had no problems with them at all, combined with the new H.C.R. high performance radiator’s there appears to be a reduction in the running temperature which can only be contusive to better overall performance from the motor.”
