Fuchs-Silkolene continue to support the 2 stroke racers

After becoming the official title sponsor of the MC Federation’s 2 stroke British championship in 2009 oil giants Fuchs-Silkolene and the MCF are pleased to announce that they will be continuing with their support of the series for 2010. Following on from a great year, the official 2 stroke British championship looks set to be better still for 2010 as all eight rounds of the championship will be incorporated into the new look Red Bull Pro Nationals.

Maico International is Proud to be Working With..

With the clock ticking down to the launch of the 2010 Maico, the company responsible for the dramatic advances are pleased to announce they have secured continued support from all 2009 partners, with some new faces joining the party.

Assisting Maico Internationals development co-ordinator and rider Neil Berry, Simon Parker of Parker fabrications has spent the last three months working closely with Berry in designing and developing the all new hand made Alloy fuel tanks which will be fitted to all 2010 bikes sold by the company, and is currently working on a larger capacity version for the Enduro and Supermoto models.

Dutch VHM-company to Develop New Cylinder Heads for Honda CR500

VHM, a very busy company in The Netherlands is developing special new cylinder heads with 4 different interchangeable inserts.
Engineers and both former MXGP-riders Theo Bouw and Heikki ‘Sealand’-VanDenBerg decided to add this item to their long list of two-stroke tuning parts.

Texas hot shoe- Jimmy Taylor

“The Official Video of Jimmy Taylor” riding the new day track at Cross Creek Cycle Park in Paige, Texas. This video shows him riding the whole track, different angles on some parts of it. The track flows great and was designed by Sean (owner of Cross Creek) and Larry Morton. Jimmy is 13, been riding since he was 6, he rides a Yamaha YZ85 and he recently raced at Loretta Lynn’s in August 2009 and got to ride a few laps with James Bubba Stewart at Oak Hill MX in Texas in July 2009. He loves to ride and is sponsored by his dad.

A Two-Stroke Revival, Without the Blue Haze

NO new car marketed in the United States has been powered by a two-stroke engine since Saab phased out its hard-to-housebreak 3-cylinder in the late 1960s, when federal air pollution laws were taking hold. And with images from Eastern Europe of belching Trabants still fresh, there hasn’t been much of a clamor for a two-stroke revival, either.

Carburetor tuning has the greatest effect on engine performance. When a motorcycle manufacturer builds a bike, they usually install jets in the carb that are too rich. The manufacturers sell the same model worldwide, so they couldn’t afford to install different jets in the carb to suit all the different climates and types of fuel. In addition to the climate and fuel, the manufacturer would also have to consider many other factors, such as the terrain and type of riding. And then there is the most important jetting consideration, the rider.

When I worked as a mechanic, I was in charge of jetting the bike over the course of the day. During morning practice sessions, the track was usually muddy and the air temperature was at its lowest point. I had to jet the bike rich for practice because the air density was

Lotus: Omnivore engine is 10% more efficient with more to come

Last March at the Geneva Motor Show, Lotus announced its new Omnivore research engine. The Omnivore is a two-stroke direct-injected engine designed to take advantage of the latest in electronic engine management and run on just about any liquid fuel (hence the name). In the time since the initial announcement, the boffins at Lotus Engineering have been exercising their creation on the dyno stand to evaluate its performance.

The following essay is the result of an e-mail that I received, a high school student asked some questions about the differences between two-strokes and four-strokes. After e-mailing some information, this is the end result as written by a 10th grader for one of her classes.

The State of “It”

Have you ever heard the statement “that guy just has “it”? Sort of like how James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael have “it”? What exactly is this “it”? Sometimes it’s a group, sometimes it’s a nuance, a nebulous factor that is difficult to quantify. In this discussion, the “it” is off-road motorcycling. We will look at just what state (condition) is “it” in.

I’m not big into numbers. They have their purpose, but there is more to life that cold hard statistics. And, if you live by stats, you will just as surely die with and by them. I’ve sat back and watched as my customers have shot themselves in the foot with numbers. They went with the numbers and left performance on the table; cost themselves money and some even irritated me to the point where I got rid of them as customers. Principle over money is my motto. My point is this: there is a big picture out there, and those who control off-road motorcycling, and its future, well, they are flat missing it.
