New Zealand, get’s New Maico

Long term Maico enthusiast and business man Steve Gallichan is aiming to put the new bikes firmly on the map in New Zealand after securing the distribution rights for the country with Maico International.

Based in New Plymouth, Steve is a devotee of the legendary German marque with numerous vintage models to his name, most of which get to feel the New Zealand dirt on a regular basis racing in various classic motocross events.

The ultimate pit vehicle!

Hey guys… Father’s day is coming up. And what better way to celebrate than with a nice comfy chair. Of course for any right minded motocross racer that chair should have wheels and while you’re at it add a motor to move you around.

These things are so strange that they are a must have. Can you imagine having these in the man cave (some call it a garage) and holding races with your best buds?

World’s Fastest MX Bike – Kawasaki KX500

On May 17th, the #1471 Spectro Oils / Cardboard Robot KX500 ran 125.854 m.p.h. at the old Maxton Army Air Base! Timed by the East Coast Timing Association, Mark Wolbrink’s run is the fastest a stock, full height motocross bike has ever gone. It was also good enough to set a new ECTA 500cc record.

The guy standing on the left is Scott Guthrie...20+years ago he set a bunch of speed records with Yamaha TZ's....most still stand today!

Life as the underdog helps Neil go-4 it

2009 Glen Helen 2-Stroke Invitational Video & Results

Unfortunately the race was moved from it’s time slot during  intermission to the end of the day due to time constrictions. With the move to race day on Saturday and the jam packed race day the powers that be were first going to cancel the event altogether!

Some cooler heads prevailed and the race was moved to the end of the day. From some of the “talk” it seems as though there was a change in the length of the race itself. When we find some details it will be posted here.

These guys are racing Two Strokes?

The past few weeks has been a blast if you’re a two stroke motocross fan. A few (former?) pro racers showed up at some local tracks on their two stroke machines.

A few weeks ago Travis Pastrana showed up at High Point Raceway on his Cernics Suzuki RM250. There is not a lot of information about this race but here are a few photos. Travis races hard with style and grace. Pure poetry in motion on a motocross bike.

Budget Racer – 2001 Honda CR125

The 2001 Honda CR125 is a great bike.  Yep, you read that correctly.  While the magazines may have called it “slow”, or “anemic”, or even a “turd”, this author begs to argue the bike is a great buy, and even more so is a great buy for you.

“WHAT!!??!” you ask.

Maico lays down the Gauntlet

With the traditional May Bank holiday weekend providing some varied and interesting Race results up and down the U.K. Maico provided a rather interesting result of their own as Neil Berry took on the 500 two stroke class in the O.R.P.A. British Clubmans Championship……on a 320!

Having only had three hours on the bike, Maico Internationals, Dunlop Maxima rider arrived at the well graded Horsham circuit on Sunday morning as the “underdog” being 180cc short of every other machine he was preparing to do battle with.
