MXA’S 2009 YAMAHA YZ250 TEST

How stupid are we? Don’t answer that. Instead, let’s analyze the facts and, if possible, fix the blame on someone other than ourselves. MXA’s first choice is always the AMA when it comes to looking for a scapegoat, followed by the government, manufacturers, marketing men, and if all else fails—the Eskimos.

What’s the problem? The problem is that somehow we went from racing technologically advanced, cheap and easy-to-maintain two-strokes to a world dominated by complicated, heavy, expensive and impossible-to-work-on four-strokes.

The Two-Stroke is only dead if you kill it yourself

We have met the enemy and he is us.

Imagine that a major manufacturer could build an engine that was eight pounds lighter than the typical powerplant, revved quicker, produced ten more horsepower (per quarter liter), had one-tenth the moving parts, cost less to maintain, and could be rebuilt for a quarter of the price of a modern engine. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Shouldn’t that designer win the Nobel prize?

World’s Greatest Supercross Races DVD Set

This five DVD collection of racing action is a must for every two stroke racer, rider and fan. The set contains over 22 hours of racing and interviews from the early history of Supercross.

When this set first arrived in my home, the first DVD was inserted in the player and I was mesmerized. The hours passed so quickly that it was well past 2am before I realized that I needed to be at work in the morning. The racing is superb.

Kick Ass CR500

Until someone builds a production 4 stroke MX bike that will outpull my 21 year old CR500, I call this 4 stroke revolution a failure.

Two Stroke Reader Comments

I don’t know how I found your site I found it by accident but it’s a great site. I bought my first CR250R because they were cheaper since people were unloading to the 4 stroke garbage. I heard they required more talent to ride and I was up to the challenge.

I had the intention to purchase a 450 in 2 years but after riding my cr250 for 3 years I have no desire to get a four stroke. Everything your saying is right. People who blow off 2 strokes don’t know anything about motorcycles. I know plenty of racers that run 4 strokes but as soon as the race is over they run back to their 2 strokes because they love the bikes.
