RacerX Test – 2009 Yamaha YZ’s
One of my favorite magazines just recently tested the 2009 Yamaha YZ two strokes. This is unusual because they had not really said much about the two strokes in quite some time. Is it possible that the tide could be changing?
What folows in an Except from the Racer X web site. At the end of the blurb is a link to the article written by David Pingree. Please sign up on the Racer X site and leave a comment.

Antoine Meo Races 125cc Two Stroke at Italy MX2
Even while many said it wasn’t possible French Racer Antoine Meo both qualified and raced the FIM World Championship Grand Prix of Citta di Faenza in Italy on his Husqvarna 125 two stroke.
Not only did Antoine qualify he also raced and earned GP points. Finishing 20th in the first moto and having some problems in the second moto finishing 27th.
Who said there’s no two strokes being made?
Not to start any conspiracy theories or anything, but I have heard told in most of the US Motocross media that some of the Japanese manufacturers are no longer making any two strokes. Sure Yamaha and KTM are still in the game here is the good ‘ol USA, but the word is that Honda and Kawasaki dropped them completely.
Or is it????
Canadian MX Nationals – JSR races a YZ250 two stroke!
One of the highlights of Walton was Team Toyota/Yamaha Blackfoot Fox’s and JSR’s decision for the veteran rider to come out of retirement to race a Yamaha YZ250 two-stroke at Walton. JSR has one as his personal practice bike and to use for local races, and said “It’s just a really good bike and I enjoy riding it. I’m not here to prove anything, just to ride it and have fun.”
All ears were on his screaming two-stroke as he blasted his way to fourth fastest time in qualifying, causing a huge stir with his fans lining the track. Unfortunately, a twisted ankle cut his charge short on race day. A mediocre start left him charging through the pack to catch up to the 450s. “I twisted my ankle yesterday in practice, and this morning to get out of bed just to walk and get dressed was difficult.
Want to start a Two Stroke Series? Here’s how I created...
Where to start?
OK You have guessed it I have a passion for 2 strokes, and having raced them for many years and being involved in the MX industry since 1992. I was seeing a dramatic change taking place, the new breed of oversized and overly noisy 4st’s had been given such an unfair advantage class wise it almost destroyed the humble 125 especially, add to this the huge costs involved in their up-keep things were changing and a change I was not happy with, so after a few beers in the pub one night with some fellow 125 riders I set about making a proper 125cc class.
Cool Racing Tips
Before you go to the races it is a wise idea to make sure all your money spent and all that effort involved will add up to great finish and a fun day! Many riders, maybe just starting out, or seasoned vets and pros forget about a very important part of their high tech racing machines….The gasoline! Yes, that expensive petroleum fluid that makes your bike rip IS important!
Whether it be really expensive racing fuel or just really expensive kinda junky fuel from a local gas station (heaven forbid), the correct fuel temperature will make a difference in the performance of your bike when starting the race!
Southwick Observations
Earlier this month there was a rumor that John Dowd was going to race a two stroke at the Southwick AMA National. Like many rumors it turned out to be false.
The 43 year old “Junkyard Dog” raced his four-stroke and finished 9th in the first moto and 5th in the second moto for a 6th overall. In doing so he beat many racers half his age! He is one bad mofo.
