LOKET (CZECH REPUBLIC), 8 August 2010 – With the 2010 season being one of novelties, both the brand new UEM EMX 125 series and its eventual Champion Jordi Tixier raised interest around the sport of Motocross. The series dedicated the 125cc two stroke machines has unveiled to be a solid base of talents for the future of the sport, with this year’s winner Tixier of France probably heading to MX2 Grand Prix racing in his future.
TIXIER’S CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Jordi Tixier was born in France in 1992 and was soon introduced to the world of Motocross by his father – a former rider at National level – who put his son on his first bike at the age of three. From then on Jordi became a passionate of the sport and even raced his first competition on a motorcycle when he was just six years old.
Tixier had to wait until he was 11 years old before wrapping up his first title, which came with the victory of the French “Miniverte” Championship in 2003 on board a 65cc KTM.
Jordi remained with KTM until 2007, with the period celebrating also his French Supercross Championship win in the 85cc class in 2007 and a podium at the FIM Junior World Championship 85cc also in 2007.
2008 and most of the 2009 saw Tixier ride Kawasaki’s but this stage of his career recorded the first main injury while racing the French 125cc Supercross Championship.
Towards the end of 2009 Tixier’s talent was spotted by former World Champion Jacky Martens, now running the Nestaan JM Racing KTM team. Martens offered the youngster a ride and the association delivered results straight away starting from the Bercy Supercross 125cc win of Tixier at the annual event held in Paris towards the end of the year.
With the EMX 125 series starting for its first time in 2010 with the goal of increasing the base of the sport, Tixier and Martens saw the perfect opportunity for their association to clinch the first Championship Title and launch Tixier into the main Motocross series following this first Championship campaign.
Starting in Mantova together with other 72 riders – a number of rivals which would remain almost unchanged for the following rounds of this successful series – Tixier managed to end on top of them all, winning both heats on the Italian sand.
Tixier won all heats also in Bellpuig and St. Jean but Teutschenthal marked a stop in his winning streak as he ended second overall. Tixier picked himself back up at the following round in Sweden, where he returned to victory and further extended his Championship lead.
At rain hit Loket, Tixier narrowly missed out on the pole position while runner up in the Championship Lafont had a nightmare qualifying as he ended 21st. Being as motivated as ever to wrap up the Title, Tixier made it already in the first heat of the day which he won. Despite having the Title under his belt, Tixier showed no mercy for his rivals and took victory also in the second heat to win his fifth round out of six.
With one EMX 125 round to go but the Title already won, Tixier will test an MX2 KTM next week and after the test will decide whether to race that class or again the EMX 125 at the final meeting of 2010 in Fermo, Italy, on the September 12 weekend.
In his future, the newly crowned EMX 125 European Champion hopes to join the MX2 Grand Prix series but his plans for the forthcoming 2011 season are not yet determined.
